In the year 1997 three friends came together to start a band. Just to play some rock music and be on stage again every once in a while. That was it. Back then the group was called Armpit and they tried to be just a little bit louder than the noise at the bar by playing old stompin' covers. What started off as a just a bit of fun is now presenting its third CD with new material. And while they changed the bands name into Absence, they still rock. In recent years the trio has been compared to Dutch pop giants such as Sweet d'Buster and Sjako and even the old English creamcracker Jack Bruce. Along with the first two CDs came the recognition. Music glossy Oor wrote about 'a very solid band that composes smart songs, excellently played with power and flexibility'. Our Belgian friends from Rock Tribune called Absence 'rather brilliant musicians. Absence is a real live band and with Gift they released an album that is a lot better than the average recordings nowadays'. That's why Gift reached number four in Lowlands Top 25 (pop magazine Fret) in the year 2003. And in 2005 they were entitled 'best live band of the east of Holland'. The new album is called 104.5 and pays tribute to the late legendary Radio Reykjavik. This radio station was located in the capital of Iceland and broadcasted the most fantastic album tracks of all the rock giants that ever walked on this earth. And no boring, bigger than life DJ's. Iceland's own Spirit of Radio. Absence is: Piet van Tienen - Guitar and vocals Maarten Dekkers - Bass and vocals Thomas Calis - Drums and vocals Buy a cd or book the band?
